Labor Day at Sonoma Raceway was a great event for the Juggers. This was the last points race for the Summit ET brackets, and over 300 racers participated. And it was hot.
Juggers had two winners, one confirmed champion and one runner up.
Brian Leasure, in his ’64 Nova SS, is the proud new owner of a Wally by way of his win in Pro ET. And I just receivedofficialconfirmation of the points results and Brian won the season championship in Pro. This is his second consecutive championship. He also went on to the Semi’s in the King of the Track competition where the winners of all classes run each other.
Both Brian and Jarrett Laws were named to Team 1 in Pro ET, comprised of the top 5 in the points, to represent Sonoma Raceway against other tracks at the Summit ET Division Finals in Bakersfield September 19-21.
Boyd Schauer won B Gas in his big yellow 40 Oldsmobile against some stiff competition in their high dollar cars. He was assisted by a great crew of Juggers all decked out in their yellow Juggers T-Shirts.
In D Gas, Jack Nilson was runner up in his 63 Chevy II, and Harold Binsfeld went to the semi finals in his 55 Chevy wagon. Jack had a great final round race, losing to Sergio Felipe in a double break out by only .014. And their lights were only .001 apart. Jack was also number one qualifier. And I just received official confirmation that Jack is first and Dan Ficher is second in the race for D Gas champion with one race to go.
John (Boots) Broucharet successfully completed his license runs so he can compete in C Gas next year in his ’63 Chevy II SS with his new 434 sbc engine.
Other Juggers racing and going rounds included Dan Ficher, Jarrett Laws, Marc Power, Gary Ryan and John Lewis. It was great seeing Marc out there racing his Lexus. His first light was .025. His comment – “Hell yeah!”
Everyone had a ball, was safe, and experienced only minor breakage. Did I mention it was hot?
Next daytime race at Sonoma is the Sunday after Thanksgiving. It is a non-points race. It will probably not be hot.
Thanks to Jim McCombe for his excellent race summary, from which I stole some of this information.
My apologies to anyone I missed or whose name I misspelled or whose car make or model I got wrong. See you all at the meeting this month.
That's Jack in the Juggers hat.

Sacramento Raceway: Door Car Shoot Out 6/1 & 6/2 results (from Dan Ficher): It
was HOT over 100 degrees. The track was prepped good considering the heat our cars were hooking. "Boots" qualified #5 with a 10.634 and I was #6 with 10.637. We both made it past the first round. Boots had the race in round two but mis-judged the finish line and lifted too early and Jugger Joe Grace drove around him getting the win. I made it to the final and was paired with Don Fournier. I gave it to him with a .001 red light!
Funny Car Fever 6/15 & 6/16 results (from Dan Ficher): It was another HOT one 107 degrees at one point! The track was working good. It was a tight field the top 5 qualifiers were all 10.60. I managed to get the #2 spot with a 10.601 "Boots" got the #4 spot with a 10.604. Boots made it to the second round and red bulbed. I am getting a handle on my E/Z plate system and my lights were good. I took out "Mean Barbara Jean" in the second round so Boots should still be in the points lead for D/Gas. It was an all Jugger final Pontiac vs. Ford in D/Gas. Joe Grace is a real nice guy and I think was just a little too excited and red lit .016 and handed me the win!
WCPGA Series point standings: In Pro Sportsman, Paul Risso is in 2nd place while Boyd Schaueris in 4th place. In C-Gas John Murphy holds 5th place. D-Gas; in 1st place is John “Boots” Broucaret, Joe Grace in 3rd, and Dan Ficheris in 5th place. (These points standing were taken from the WCPGA website June 2012).
